On opening day at St. Andrew’s in the summer of 1988, we had the good fortune to have cut the ribbon with a fully subscribed membership in place. What had set us apart from most new or existing private facilities at that time were the following principles that remain unaltered to this day:

(1) A friendly and enjoyable golf atmosphere (this is often overlooked).
(2) A small membership with no crowding and absolutely no need for starting times ever!
(3) No outside tournaments and only enough club events to satisfy the competitive nature of the many, while not sacrificing access to play by members and their guests, each and every day.
(4) Build a highly rated golf facility with complete practice area to enhance the ongoing game improvements of all our member owners.
(5) Supply first class food and beverage in an attractive yet efficient Club House facility.
(6) Retain all of this within controlled budgets, zero debt and no minimum billing.
(7) These rules along with an assurance of golf played in or under 4 hours.10 minutes.

There is much more to be told relating to St. Andrew’s first twenty-one years, but then we would not remain “golf’s best kept secret”!
