Tucked into historical Islington Village and the river valley, Islington Golf Club is a challenging Stanley Thompson designed course in a picturesque parkland layout with rolling terrain and the meandering Mimico Creek. A Stanley Thompson Course
Tucked into historical Islington Village and Mimico Creek valley, Islington Golf Club is a challenging 18-hole, par-72 golf course that features tree-lined, parkland style golf holes, rolling terrain, and the meandering Mimico Creek. Stanley Thompson was hired to design and supervise construction of the course - an early assignment in what became an illustrious career.
Although there has been minor alteration in the hole sequence over the years, the course plays close to its original design and retains much of the charm and features of Thompson’s original layout. The course, however, has also benefitted from a recent commitment of considerable funds for course improvements that include bunker redesign, hazard restoration, water reservoir construction and a new irrigation system, under the guidance of Doug Carrick Design.
Even after 85 years, the course continues to challenge golfers of all skill levels. Last year, the club was host to the GAO Ontario Men’s Amateur and welcomed some of the best amateur golfers in Ontario. But for all golfers, play on the early holes is deceiving, with unforgiving holes to challenge them the rest of the way. That being said, the course is a pleasure to walk and players enjoy a comfortable 4h 10m pace of play. Our walk-on tee time system also allows members the flexibility to fit in a round of golf at a moment’s notice – a perk from a course conveniently located in Toronto’s west end.
The Club
The timelessness of Thompson’s course design is complemented by modern amenities, including newly renovated locker rooms and lounges. Windows over-looking the course, Mimico Creek and landscaped gardens run the length of our dining and event rooms, but the patio is a highlight because of its spectacular vistas of the course. These recent course and clubhouse improvements reflect our membership's commitment to maintaining the club's position as one of the finest in Ontario. But apart from access to a great golf course, an Islington membership is about more than just golf: it’s really about joining a community of active golf and social members and a sense of belonging.
Equity Golf Club
Islington is a private equity club, with a focus on golf during the season and social activities running year-round.
This equity structure means that members own the golf club; members purchase shares when they join and are able to sell these shares when they leave - unlike a more traditional private club that includes an initiation fee, which becomes a “sunk” cost after joining, with no financial return to the member. Please contact us to learn more about the benefits of our equity golf club.
Trial Membership
Islington is offering a Trial Membership program for the 2009 season. This is a great opportunity for you to immerse yourself in our wonderful club environment on a trial basis before deciding to join. We would be pleased to give you a tour and discuss this program further.
